Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge SSSC66

I've found at least four challenges I'd like to participate in this week so far. I'm not sure how many I'll end up doing, but here's my first one for The Sweetest Thing...Sweet Sunday Sketch Challenge.

I adore these flowers! I've seen them everywhere and finally decided to try my hand at making them. I used fabric instead of paper. This fabric is leftover from a dress that was made for my oldest daughter when she was in kindergarten. She's now 30! I ripped the fabric into strips so I would have the frayed edges. Once you get the hang of making them and twisting the fabric while trying to use a hot glue gun, you're in business. Maybe I'm not as coordinated as some, 'cause I sure could have used a third hand at times!

CPS Sketch 155

I'm really slow this week. I guess I've just had other things to do and haven't had alot of time for challenges. This one, from Card Positioning Systems, is one that I have completed. I really like this sketch. I have a feeling I will be using it over and over.

Thanks - CPS155

I made my flower from fat quarter fabric. The fabric on the button is from a dress that my oldest daughter wore in kindergarten! I've said before that I never throw anything away. I also found blue and white check fabric that was used for a dress for her in with material I've been saving. I'm planning on making some flowers with it also.

For the button, I used some flat cover buttons from Dritz that I came across yesterday. I was at The Quilt Cottage in Hazelhurst, WI picking up some other stuff and Lisa, who works there showed me these. I guess I don't get out much, because I had no idea they made these. I love them! Now I can make my own buttons out of fabric for my cards and layouts.

Something else that I did on this card was to use bandage roll material. I cut some from the roll it comes on and sprayed it with Memories Mists Bright Gold, let it dry and used it like you would ribbon. I saw this technique used somewhere (can't remember where), but they used it on a scrapbook layout. I like different textures, so I thought this was pretty cool.

Flower Fun

Flowers and buttons are probably my favorite embellishments to add to cards and scrapbook layouts. I'm on a never ending search for different ways to make them. Below are some I've made recently. I still have other types of flowers I want to experiment with. I'll be sure to share them when I'm finished.

The paper ones are so easy. Getting the right amount of adhesive and spritzing them in order to squish them together gives them a ruffle look.

The fabric ones are so fun and super easy to make!

On the one above I used two fabrics. I haven't decided if I want to add anything to the center yet.

The button flowers have been a little tricky trying to find the right adhesive to hold them together. The felt flowers require a little hand sewing. I think I might try layering a couple just to add a little dimension.
