OWH Stars & Stripes Color Challenge

I saw a technique awhile back that intrigued me and I've wanted to try it out. The only problem is that I needed acetate. Not the real heavy type, just something that would go through my Big Shot. I had some from my local scrapbook store that I used for some pictures that I made into note cards, but it wasn't what I was looking for. Finally, I found something that I thought might work at an office supply store.

This card was designed for a challenge on the OWH Stars & Stripes blog. The challenge is to create a card using your favorite color. I didn't think it would be so difficult for me to choose! I love bright colors that stand out, I'm not much for pastels. That's not to say I don't use them when my arm is twisted, it's just not my first choice. My first love is black. Everything goes with black. I also have a tendency to use alot of dark colors, which is what I did with this card. Its taken me two days to make this card, but that's just because I'm slow and it takes me awhile to make up my mind. It's now done and I love it!

The technique I used was called the acrylic smash. What fun! I'm ready to try it again.

Floral Notecards

I am lucky enough to have a sister-in-law who's forgotten more about flowers than I will ever know in my life. In fact, though I love flowers, I'm a confessed "garden assassin". I always start off with good intentions, but there are only a few things I'm able to keep alive - hostas, daylillies, and asiatic lillies! Maybe that's why I'm so obsessed with making flowers and using them on my cards and layouts. At least I know I can't kill paper.

I asked my sister-in-law for some pictures so I could make some notecards. She literally has "thousands" of photos, so I'll never have to look anywhere else or attempt to take pictures of flowers that I might pathetically attempt to grow.

I bought a piece of acetate awhile ago with no idea what I was going to do with it. Well, it worked perfectly for these pictures. While the photos may look blurry, it's the effect of the acetate and that I have matted them with Bazzill cardstock. I absolutely love the effect and will be using it alot in the future.

I do have two favorites out of the four cards - (the first two) the pink flower and the purple and white one. See...I don't even know what kind they are!
